On 25 February 2021, the informal meeting of the Ministers of the Internal Market and Industry of the European Union was held, chaired by the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira.

Of the topics discussed, the following stand out:

• The European Semester and the National Recovery and Resilience Plans as an instrument to fulfill the objectives of the Industrial Policy: with the objective of discussing the Single Market, the double transition and strategic autonomy.

• The New Consumer Agenda and its essential role for consumers in economic recovery and, consequently, the need to strengthen their resilience.

23 e 26 February 2021 | Industry Days 2021


From the 23rd to the 26th of February, the EU 2021 Industry Days took place in virtual format. This event promoted an inclusive dialogue on the challenges and opportunities facing the industry, taking into account the dual transition, green and digital, and with changes in the global competitive landscape.

The 2021 edition reflected on how the crisis, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, can become an opportunity to rethink and reformulate the economic, industrial and social reality of Europe, creating new opportunities for growth. This initiative was the biggest event on industry involving diverse interlocutors and citizens from across Europe in a reflection on the future of EU industry and the update of the new European industrial strategy.

The first day of the event was attended by the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, who presented the Vision of the Portuguese Presidency. On the second day, the General Director of Economic Activities, Fernanda Ferreira Dias, participated in the panel “Defining the potential of digital for sustainability, innovation and Recovery”.

10 February 2021 |  Webinar on EU Commercial Policy and presentation of the Access2Markets platform


On February 10, 2021 took place the webinar on the European Union Trade Policy, co-organized by the Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Commission.

On this webinar several issues were discussed such as the important role of trade policy instruments to ensure fair conditions for the competitiveness of national and European companies, as well as the proper application and execution of EU trade agreements, trade barriers, the participation of small and medium-sized companies in global trade and the role of trade defense instruments in protecting European industry.

The European Commission introduced the Access2Markets platform, which provides relevant information for EU exporting companies, for example information on EU trading partners, customs duties and fees.

In a panel moderated by the Business Confederation of Portugal (CIP), the Portuguese Gold and Watch Association (AORP) presented its sector, and two companies – Matcerâmica and Ferneto – made known the benefits associated with the free trade agreements of export activity to third countries, namely in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises.

The opening was in charge of the Secretary of State for Internationalization, Eurico Brilhante Dias (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the closing of the Secretary of State for Commerce, Services and Consumer Protection, Eng. João Torres (Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition ). Also present were: Denis Redonnet (Senior Responsible for the Implementation of the European Commission's Trade Policy), Fernanda Ferreira Dias (Director General of Economic Activities, Ministry of Economy and Digital Transition) and Maria João Botelho (Deputy Director General for Affairs) Europeans, Ministry of Foreign Affairs).
