The EU 2021 Industry Days took place, in virtual format, from the 23rd to the 26th of February. The Director General of Economic Activities, Fernanda Ferreira Dias, participated in the panel, “Defining the potential of digital for sustainability, innovation and Recovery”, organized by DigitalEurope and took place the 24th.
The session aimed to discuss the main priorities for Europe in relation to industrial data. The debate focused on how data is currently at the centre of economic and societal transformation, making it an even more valuable means for combating a crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
The intervention of the General Director of Economic Activities, Fernanda Ferreira Dias, highlighted the importance of:
- the digital area for the Portuguese Presidency of the European Council (PPUE2021):
- start-ups for European economic development. In this regard, the Director General referred to the creation of a “Start-up Nation Standard”, as one of the objectives of PPUE 2021;
- the EU becoming a reference for the digital sector at a global level, and in this regard referred the “Declaration on Digital Democracy with a Purpose”, which the Presidency will present in order to strengthen the human dimension of Digital, reaffirming the role of Europe as a democratic reference and as a source of confidence in the world;
- international cooperation and referred to the inauguration of the EllaLink submarine cables that will allow to increase the European presence at a global level.
For the Portuguese Presidency, digital development is essential to be able to acquire greater economic resilience and to increase the European presence at a global level, in addition to being a means to achieve European climate neutrality.
