The Programme for the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union for 2021 follows the motto “Time to deliver: a fair, green and digital recovery”. The Portuguese Presidency takes on the ambition to promote a more resilient, social, green, digital and global European Union, focusing on three major priorities:
- To promote Europe's recovery, leveraged by the climate and digital transitions;
- To implement the Social Pillar of the European Union as a key element for ensuring a fair and inclusive climate and digital transition;
- To strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy keeping it open to the world.
These priorities are defined through five lines of action:
- Promoting recovery, cohesion and European values;
- Promoting the EU as a leader in climate action;
- Accelerating the digital transformation for citizens and businesses;
- Enhancing and strengthening the European social model;
- Promoting a Europe that is open to the world.
